Is Defcort Effective For Ear Block With Cold & Cough?

I had a cold and cough for some days. About 6-7 days after it was ok, suddenly one morning my left ear was totally blocked. My Doctor has given me Defcort 6 for 10 days. Is it ok? My ear got blocked on 4th Aug, I have started on Defcort on 8th Aug. I am 50 yeras of age with good health.

Hello,

Infection or allergy may cause ear block, Defcort is a steroid and it is effective in reducing inflammation but in case of infection-induced block, problem may be not cured. Take antibiotic along with it.

If you have diabetes or peptic ulcer or osteoporosis, then it is better to avoid steroid. Use tablet Alday DC (if you are hypertensive keep an eye while taking) twice a day for 5 days. Use salt water gargling and water vapor inhalation thrice a day.

If symptoms not improved, please consult your physician, he/she will examine and treat you accordingly.
