Is Difficulty In Eating While Wearing Retainers Normal?
I m wearing retainers with the plastic sitting on the roof of my mouth as normal. I am having retainers before braces to push back my upper row. I don t feel like I m properly stomaching food when eating. I don t know if this is because of pure hesitation from the fear of my metal breaking, or genuinely because I can t chew my food properly as half of my mouth is covered with plastic. Is this normal? What do I do?
Yes, it is a little difficult to eat food while wearing retainers. In case you feel very uncomfortable then you are advised to visit your dentist and get it examined and evaluated to rule out any mis-fitting or injury. You should first cut the food into small pieces before putting it into your mouth and then chew it properly.
Avoid taking hard food, sticky food that may get lodged between your retainers and teeth. It may break your retainers. If you have removable retainers, then you can remove the retainers before eating but keep it in a safe place. When you wear it, make sure that it has fitted properly. Take care of your dental hygiene.
