Is Discharge Of Blood Clots Post Silver Nitrate Application Normal?

Hello, A week ago I had my cervix scraped and silver nitrate applied due to some bleeding I was experiencing post intercourse. I’ve been seeing some brownish spotting and blood since but the last 2-3 days the blood has been bright red and I’ve passed several large clots. I’m wondering if this is normal? My OB told me I shouldn’t experience any bleeding after the procedure. I’m also having some mild cramping tonight which I haven’t had since the first day it was done. I have a follow up appointment for 3 weeks time but should I try to see someone before then or just wait this out?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

After a cervical cautery, spotting can be seen for a couple of days due to instrumentation during the procedure. There can also be excessive white discharge. If you attain your natural period during the recovery phase, you may bleed more than normal. If you are not in the period, you should not be bleeding heavily.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
