Is Discontinuing Carbimazole Recommended When Thyroid Levels Are Normal?
Hi I was on carbimazole. My last blood test showed my thyroid levels were good. Last week I ran out of my carb tablets and couldn t find my script. I ve been totally off it since then. Is it ok to suddenly stop or should I go get a new script. Thanks
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Carbimazole or Methymazole is used to treat an overactive thyroid gland.
Actualy, YOur thyroid levels are normal because of the Carbimazole therapy and it is not recommended to stop the treatment.
It is necessary to have a minimal dosis that will help you to have normal thyroid results in the future( since you have a definitive solution for your hyperthyroidism.)
I suggest to go get a new script from your treating endocrinologist and to discuss with him what is the right actual doses for you and the definitive possible solutions for your thyroid condition.
Hope this information is helpful. Take care.
