Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is Dizziness One Of The Symptoms Of Essential Thrombocytosis And Polycythemia Vera?
I was dianosed with essential thrombocytosis and polycythemia vera a few months ago. I have had no symptoms until the last 2 days. I am very dizzy. My blood pressure is normal and my last blood test 1 month ago showed my blood platelets at 700,000 and red blood cells at 4.6. Every thing else was in normal ranges. Should I be alarmed with the dizziness or just wait for my next appointment in 2 weeks. I am 6o years old, 5'4'' 145 pounds, walk 2 hours daily, eat a very healthy diet and have been very healthy until now. I have never smoked.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Polycythemia and essential throbocythemia both are myeloproliferative disorders. Polycythemia is characterized by raised red blood cell mass. The elevated red cell mass can lead to formation of aggregates which can cause occlusion and thus pain in that particular region as the first symptom. Thus the dizziness could be the first symptom of blood vessel occlusion. Consult your hematologist for clinical assessment and thus further management.
