Is Elevated Hemoglobin Count A Concern In An APML Survivor Who Is Cured Of Cancer?

My mother, aged 62 years, is an APML Survivor who is cured of cancer and has completed 5 years post her treatment. We got her blood work done recently. Her blood count seem to be elevated hb 14.4, Platelets 3.7 and WBC 13,900. One year before her HB used to be 13.8, Platelets around 3.3 or 3.4, and WBC around 11,000. All the other tests are with in the range. She is also takes medication for blood pressure. Is there something to be worried, or is it normal?

Hi,

The changes in the blood count here are not significant with reference to the condition of APML. These changes do not seem to be worrisome. However, regular follow up for evaluation of changes into specific markers of disease is important for assessing the prognostic course of disease. You should strictly follow the guidelines of your treating physician in this matter.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
