Is Endoscopy Required For Constipation In Extreme Cases?

hi my son went to the doctor today because of serve constapation, the dr says he has fecial impaction and to use 2 enemas today and 2 tomorrow if these does not work he will need to go to the hosital for some sort of endoscopy (i think thats what he said) could that be right?
