Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Recently doctor has prescribed Serta 50, once daily to my mother. She has started this medicine three days before only and since yesterday she is feeling very disheartened, seems not interested in talking with others. I would like to know is it the side effect of Serta 50. Please advice me it is urgent.
Setra contains sertraline that belongs to the group of antidepressant medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or SSRI is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attack etc. Sometimes, it may raise the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, new episode or worsening of depression etc and other side effects. These side effects are usually noticed during the first few months of treatment with this medication. These side effects will go away gradually over time as the body adjusts to this medication. But if these side effects persist for long or bother you then you should consult your doctor first for medical help.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
