Hi:Doctor, Is Flagy Tablets (by Piramal Health Co) 400mg used for Piles? I am suffering from Piles currently I am using Pilon for a long time now. I thought I should change to Flagyl as it is not advisable to continue with one drug where your systme gets immune. I am 45 years old.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood your concerns. Flagyl is metronidazole and is usually given in cases of an intestinal infection, colitis,. amebiasis and anerobic infection. Your Doctor must have prescribed this medicine with a purpose also it does not help in piles as piles is enlargement of the veins at the anal canal. Hence I would advise you the following in such a situation: Continue Flagyl for 5 day course and then stop it. Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, appointment for colonoscopy, ano-proctoscopy to know the exact diagnosis and if piles are present to know the grade so that an appropriate management can be done whether by medication or surgery or banding as per the stage of the problem, expertise of the Treating Doctor. Also take a stool softener, Sitz bath in a tub with warm water. Avoid foods and beverages that cause constipation.
