I was bitten by a horsefly on my left elbow and right wrist. My left arm is swolllen as is my right hand and half of my right arm also the inside of my left arm have turned red from my wrist to my shoulder. Have been proscribed flucloxacillin @ 1000 mgs 4 times a day aswell as antihistamines how long should this medicines take to work and why is the doseage of flucloxacillin so high.
Hi, Welcome to Health Care Magic. Firstly, of all I would like to assure you not to worry as it will take time to heal. From your description i infer you have got a disease called "Cellulitis". Don't be bothered by its difficult name. In layman terms its a disease which is caused by a germ called staphylococcus that is normally present on our skin and got entered to your blood stream with bite. Please use the these drugs as you are prescribed. Normally for my patients i would take swab and blood culture and sensitivity before starting antibiotics. flucloxacillin 100mg 4 times daily for almost 7 to 10 days take pain killers and antihistamines with it.
For a caution, please do not stop your medicine in middle. as cellulitis can spread more if not treated properly. On the other hand you can get completely well if you use it in time and for its advised period.
Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish you good health.
