Is Flying Safe While Having A Painful Middle Ear Infection?
Hello I am on holiday in Greece and have grommets in as I suffer from Eustachian tube dusfunction, I have a middle ear infection and on my second antibiotics they are Ciprofloxacin. The ENT doctor here looked at my ears yesterday and said I was ok to fly as even though a lot of fluid in my ear (it leaks a lot of fluid in the evening) and my ear seems full, he says because of the grommet even though my ear seems full air can still pass through so it is safe to fly.Because my ear seems so full and painful and my neck I find it hard to believe that being on a plane with pressure won have an impact I m asking for a second opinionKind regards Ruth
As already grommet is inserted, you should not be having much problem in adjusting with negative middle ear pressure encountered during the flight.During the phase of active infection there is achance that that grommet can become blocked,so i would advice you to add steroid antibiotic ear drops and decongestants.
