Is Fundoplication Surgery Causing Pain In My Ribs?
I have always suffered with my stomach. I had fundoplication surgery 3 years ago. I m really bad with my eating. I seem to not be able to drink alcohol at all. Im worried with the pain in my left rib and the fact it prodrudes but it so painfull to the point were it knocks me sick please can you help
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you are having either musculoskeletal pain or GERD (Gastro esophageal reflux disease) associated pain. But first we need to rule out cardiac cause for left sided chest pain. So get done Ecg to rule out heart problem. If this is normal than mostly it is from above mentioned two. Fundoplication surgery needs lower ribs manipulation to access stomach and esophagus. So if during or after surgery any malhandling can damage ribs and muscles and so they may cause pain. Treatment for this is painkiller and muscle relaxant only. Another possibility is GERD itself. As if you don't follow diet and lifestyle modification you can have GERD symptoms even after surgery. So follow these for better control. 1. Avoid hot, spicy food. Avoid stress. Avoid large meals, take frequent small meals. 2. If you are obese than loose some weight. If you have any habits than quit them. 3. Take proton pump inhibitors. 4. Go for walk after meals. 5. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in bed.
