Is Gentle Intercourse Safe After 4 Weeks Of Vaginal Hysterectomy?

Hi, I have had a vaginal total hysterectomy. I had very gentle sexual intercourse at the 4 week mark with no pain and no issues afterwards. I have read a number of articles that say gentle sex can commence from 4 to 6 weeks depending on how the person feels. Although I had no issues I am hesitant to go there again as I don t want to push my luck. My check up is in another 3 weeks. Advice please.

Hi,

After vaginal hysterectomy it is suggested to have sex after 6 weeks. This is recommended so that the women gets time to recover completely. Post four to six weeks of hysterectomy:

1. You should do pelvic exercises to prevent the weakening of the pelvic floor.

2. Gentle intercourse 4-6 weeks post surgery can be done though it may vary from patient to patient.

3. Vitamin supplements & nutritious food should be taken as post surgery, many women feel loss of stamina, joint pains, fatigue or loss of vitality.

4. Stay away from stress, take adequate sleep & stay well hydrated.

Sometimes, patients do not take adequate rest & later experience symptoms like vaginal prolapse, fecal & urinary incontinence, backache, constipation & disturbed sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
