Is Graves Disease Associated With Sore Thyroid Gland?
Is it usual to have a sore thyroid gland with Graves disease? I have been on Carbimazole since June. Started on 30mg per day now on 5mg daily. My last last TSH, T3 & T4 a month ago were within normal levels. I don't seem to have any symptoms of hyperthyroidism presently, but fatigue more easily than when I was well. Besides sore external throat area and tight chest am well. I am a 46yr old normally healthy female
Usually the Thyroid gland will not be painful or sore with Grave's disease. Usually it is painless. Where as viral thyroiditis is painful and often there is soreness around neck.
However, I have seen at least 10 patients with Grave's thyroiditis with sore neck.
Carbimazole also can lead to sore throat ( not sore neck, but sore throat) . If that happens, you have to check your CBC immedietly to look for drop in white cell count
