Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My normal heart rate walking 4 miles at a 4.8 miles per hour rate averages about 115 bpm. I am on medicine to keep my rate down. I have been staying up late the past 3 night and today my rate while on the treadmill was about 127. Am I just tired or is this something to look at?
Hello. Welcome to HCM and thank you for your question. I understand your concern.
It could result from tiredness and not getting enough amount of sleep, basically a reaction of the organism to a "new rule" you posed it to, for one day. However, the good thing is that was a one time thing. Why it does not seem worrisome to me? Well, different bodies have different capacities of physical activity. The heart rate can be registered in various figures while exercising, undergoing psychological stress, due to everyday physiological hormonal changes etc. The formula 220 - age describes the 100% of the physical capacity a certain individual can achieve and is considered normal while exercising. Even when under heart rate-lowering medication, heart rate is increased during exercise. However, it is not expected to achieve to the 100% of physical capacity. It can go to 75% of the physical capacity, but even up to 85% is considered normal. Therefore, my opinion is that there is nothing to worry about.
I hope my answer helps. Wish you a good health.
Kind regards, Dr. Meriton
