Is Heavy Vaginal Bleeding Normal After Missing A Dose Of HRT?

I do not know if I should be consulting a gynecologist or an endocrinologist....? I am a 23 year old female. I ve never had a period naturally. I was diagnosed,at the age of 14, with primary amenorrhea and gonadal dysgenesis. I lost insurance when I was 18, therefore, lost the treatment that I need/had(HRT). I have a few questions. Hopefully, you can answer them for me as well as guide me into the right direction. 1) While on hrt(without progesterone), I missed a dose and I started bleeding and I had huge clots of blood, Is that normal for an artificial period that wasn t aided with progesterone? Is it even possible to have a period without progesterone implemented with the estrogen? 2) I ve had an ultrasound to find my ovaries, but they couldn t be found; However, my uterus is present. Why is it that I have sharp pain from the left side of my pelvic region. This pain was evident while on hrt and even now(without hrt). Could that pain come from an ovary or some other reproductive organ in that area? 3) My breasts are stuck in the budding stage of breast development. Does that indicate that I do have some amount of estrogen present in my body? Or, can that small amount of breast development be accounted for by the pituitary gland? I finally have the funds and insurance to get the help that I need, I just want some information to recap and help me understand some things before I set up a doctor appointment. Thanks

Hi,

Ovaries are the main source of estrogen and progesterone and since you don't have this hormone you may be don't have ovaries. They were not visualised in ultrasound.

Since you don't have both hormones the lack of Progesterone and the taken estrogen in the first part of the cycle can lead to bleeding. Talk to your endocrinologist.

You need to take HRT constantly without stopping it.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

1. In an artificial cycle supported with estrogen but not progesterone is possible to have bleeding and clots. You lack both hormones so should take them both.

2. Ovaries are the main source of progesterone and estrogen hormones and since you lack them the ovaries are absent. The ultrasound showed the same thing. The pain may come from colon or pelvic inflammatory disease.
3. The breast development comes from HRT you had.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
