Is Herpes Transmission Possible Despite Protected Fellatio?

I had protected oral sex (received only with a condom on) 7 days ago from an escort. 24-48 hours post this event, I developed flu like symptoms that continued for a few days. 5 days post event, my scrotum feels hot with adjoining parts of the leg, lips seem cracked and burny. No redness. I am concerned about the possibility having contracted Herpes. I dont really see any vesicles or openings in my penis. Risk of Herpes? I am partnered and concerned about this situation - which I have learned from as it has created a lot of stress.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Herpes simplex virus is only transmitted through direct contact e.g oro-genital or genital - genital contact either via exchange of infectious genital fluids or contact with infected mucosal surafces. A condom protected peno-oral sexual contact does not pose any risk of transmission of Herpes Simplex Virus because there is no direct contact with infectious fluids or with infected mucosa.

Hope I have answered your query.
