Is Immediate Medical Attention Required After A Child Accidentally Bangs Her Head Against A Wall Twice And Falls Asleep?
My 2 1\2 year old daughter bounced the back of head off the wall and cried for a min then was fine and playing, then it happened again, she screamed for a min or two then fell asleep, I ve been trying to wak her up but she won t open her eyes but she does respond. Does she have a concussion? Should I keep trying to wake her up? Does we need to go to the hospital?
I understand your concern. Head injuries in children are very common and sometimes they can lead to serious consequences. While not every head injury is necessarily cause for concern, when it comes to children, it is always better to be on the safe side. Head traumas followed by loss of consciousness and, possibly vomiting afterwards are a definitive cause for concern and always yields medical attention. It is possible that your daughter is just sleepy because she is tired from all that jumping, however is she has been asleep for longer than three hours than there is something going on and you should seek medical help while trying to wake her up. In any case, being watchful for the next 48 hours after a fall or head trauma is always the sensible thing to do.
