Is Increasing Dosage Of Sumatriptan To 50mg Dangerous?
I am prescribed 25 mg sumatriptan succinate for migraine. Recently I ve found that this dosage isn t as effective as it was in the past. Is it appropriate for me to ask my dr. to prescribe 50 mg instead? I realize I may take a 25 mg twice, but prefer to obtain 50 mg tabs because my insurance payment limitations.
You should know that 50 mg is a normal dose of Sumatriptan. So, it is OK to take it once as soon as you feel that the migraine attack is starting. Its effects are more prominent in the fist hour of the migraine headache attack. You can repeat another dose after two hours if the headache persists. But, I would just recommend you to measure your blood pressure values during this period of time, because this drug can lead to high blood pressure values. Hope you will find this answer helpful! Best wishes, Dr. Aida
