Is Inhalation Of Burnt Plastic Fumes A Cause For Concern?
I may have accidentally breathed in and ingested some melted plastic after leaving a supposedly microwave-safe plate in the microwave. Approximately 5cm2 of plastic melted and there was a choking and pungent smell produced. The gas emitted from the microwave after opening it was colourless though. Does my family and I need to consult a doctor and have our bodies checked?

hello, inhalation of burnt fumes that too of plastic is not safe, it may lead to devastating consequences later... i would suggest you to meet a physician who will investigate you better... better get your family members also consulted..
A single incident of inhaling plastic fumes may not be harmful enough to get your bodies checked up. It may cause slight headache in some people and you are advised to spend time inhaling fresh air. You need not consult a doctor if you do not have any symptoms like breathlessness or severe headache. The choking was due to the gas irritating the lining of throat wall and not a dangerous symptom.
