Is Injection Advisable For Mild Arthritic Pain On The First Joint Of Thumb?

I have severe pain the first joint of my right thumb. Dr says very mild arthritis and a calcification that is on the side of the joint which is interferring with the joint. Taking aleve now, but he says injection best choice. Fear of injection as I had a reaction last time 10 years ago in another joint. Your advise?
