hi
it is not so common to feel pain after 3 days of extraction but also its not so uncommon either. t can be due to dry socket or their may be tear of mucoperiosteum around extraction site which can lead to pain. get yourself clinically examined. if theirs dry socket , irrigation with betadine is best. also do warm saline rinses. take tramadol and paracetamol combination as painkiller or ketorol. they work best. as for antibiotics, start on amoxycillin 500 mg three times a day.

wishing you speedy recovery
with best regards

Pain that lasts for up to a week or so but is gradually getting better is normal. You could ask your dentist or pharmacist for stronger painkillers. Pain that starts to get worse after two days is considered abnormal and you may want to see your dentist. This could be a sign of “dry socket”.
A dry socket occurs when the blood clot for healing becomes dislodged or doesn’t form. In that case, the bone and fine nerve endings are not protected and exposed to air, food, and liquids. Dry socket delays the healing process and can be very painful. If you suspect dry socket, see your dentist. S/he will place a medicated dressing in the socket which will almost instantly relieve pain. If the area is infected, your dentist may also prescribe a course of antibiotics. The medicated dressing should be changed every day or two at the start, and then at longer intervals. Though some dressings are designed to stay in and dissolve by themselves.

hi pain after extraction is upto some extent normal but as you told the intensity is much high , this seems to be a dry socket. when the blood clot after extraction is not properly formed due to patients mistake , which include, gargles within 24 hours of extractions which prevent proper blood clot, spitting saliva, use of hot food items , then this pain is observed by patients. now you will have to use antibiotic for 5 days along with anti inflammatory analgesics, and metronidazole. the application of a local gel alvogyl in the extracted socket is also of benefit. and proper use of mouth wash two times a day and warm saline water gargles will reduce your pain. regards

hi,
i read your problem, pain is up to a level is normal......
but you said you have a sever pain which is radiating,it is not normal........
it may be due to dry socket, which is because of smoking after extraction, spitting, loss of blood clot etc...............
any ways you should go back to your dentist as soon as possible and go for examination......
after that please follow all the given instructions properly.............
nothing to get worried..............
take care

Hi,

Pain persisting 3 days after extraction normally indicates the infection in the extraction socket. in Dental terminology it is called Dry Socket.
I suggest you to visit your dentist. he will clean the socket, put the sedative dressing in the socket so that the healing will start.
antibiotic and analgesics need to be taken and betadine mouth rinses will help and fasten the healing process.

Thanks,

Dr. Vishal Jain.

Hi, please visit your dentist immediately. You may be suffering from a dry socket. Irrigation of the extraction area with betadine and use of oral medication including antibiotics along with potent analgesics like Ketorol and Aceclofenac may give you a lot of relief. Take care!
