Is It A Matter Of Concern To Have Sudden Heart Pounding And Woke Up From Sleep?
Good evening, I am a 52 year old male, 5'6" 230#s. This morning around 4:00am I was woken from a dead sleep by my heart just pounding out of my chest! No pain, no tightness or other symptoms. It was so hard you could hear it from outside my chest! lasted about 15-20 min. Really scared me, this is the first time for this experience. I have had a stress test and echo cardio gram about 2-21/2 years ago with good to normal results. Tonight I almost feel like im sore. Is this something I should be concerned about? Thanks for your time.
Your description of symptom suggestive of arrhythmia that is rapid heart rate inappropriately. I hope that you are non diabetic as diabetic patients may experience such symptoms due to lower blood sugars but will not have sudden relief from the same. Do not get worried , however you should get evaluated for the same. I suggest you to undergo 24 hours Holter recording ( which is out patient investigation recording EKG in a recorder attached through electrodes ) after resting EKG and Echocardiogram and if Holter analysis is uneventful , Stress test as arrhythmias can occur due to ischemia occasionally on exertion. Treatment can be advised basing on above investigations.
