Is It Advisable To Conceive Having Diagnosed With Dermatomyositis?
I have a family member who has been diagnosed with dermatomyositis. She has been pregnant four times and has had three miscarriages with one being at 24 weeks pregnant. Her first pregnancy was when the symptoms were first discovered. She was treated for RA with steroids and had a healthy baby. Since then she has not been able to maintain a pregnancy. The last pregnancy was the worst. Her symptoms were bad with swelling and joint pain early on and the steroids did not provide the same relief as the first pregnancy. When she lost the baby at 24 weeks she went through many tests and was diagnosed with dermatomyositis. She is on steroids and feeling good but is unsure if she should try for another baby. She is worried about the outcome for the baby and for her own health. What is the latest thought on treatment and prognosis? Her levels are low (800's) and she feels good.
