Is It Advisable To Continue With Folic Acid And Vitamin C After Suffering From A White Layer Formation On Tongue?

Hi,
My tongue has been raw, glassy looking in the center with a white edge near the tip and center for 3 months now It feels a lot like it is burned. It is not a perfect circle shape, and there aren't any near the edge of my tongue, only down the middle. There are three circles at present. Tongue is painful all day and especially uncomfortable when eating acidic, spicy, or hot foods. I presently take 1,000mg B12, folic acid, and vitamin C daily. I don't know what to do, or which doctor would be the best to see.

Hi. Welcome to HCM. There are many reasons for the white lesions on tongue. Anemia, vitamin deficiencies, malnutrition, skin diseases, and HIV may be some of the causes. Commonly white tongue lesions simply appear from exposure to something, whether it is mint flavored gum, acidic food, powerful toothpaste, tobacco, alcohol, or spicy food. These white tongue lesions are usually tender to touch and movement, and may result in difficulty speaking, eating, and tasting, depending on how much of the tongue has been affected. There are many ways to treat white tongue lesions depending on what caused them Most white tongue lesions should clear on their own within three to five days. For those that don’t, its better to see a physician. I suggest u to take iron supplements (syrup dexorange 1tsp twice dialy should be taken after food) also and continue vitamin tablets, in the mean time consult a physician for proper diagnosis. Regards.
