Is It Advisable To Take Iodine During Pregnancy With Thyroid?
I am 4 weeks pregnant and have had conflicting advice from GP, pharmacist and fertility nurse about whether I should or should not be taking iodine. I have an underactive thyroid and take 100mcg levothyroxine a day. Please can you advise? I live in New Zealand, which may have a bearing on amount of iodine in average diet here. Thanks
Hi, You need to take recommended amount of iodine as it prevents your child from mental retardation and underactive thyroid. In addition, you are advised to take iodine rich foods, seafood, bread, milk and eggs.Vegetables and fruits reflect the iodine content of the soil where they are grown. You should also take folic acid daily. Hope you are satisfied. Good Luck
