Is It Advisable To Take Two Contraceptives?

Hi Doctor I went for a laparoscope in September 2013 and my gynaecologist has put me on visanne. I have noticed that my periods take longer to complete, they can go for two weeks none stop- My recent cycle was very heavy and i had severe period pains. My sister is a nurse and she suggested I take Famynor to ease the bleeding and severe pain, my question is: is it advisable for me to take two contraceptives? What is causing this prolonged, heavy bleeding and painful cycle?

In general, it is not a good idea to take two contraceptives at the same time. However, there are circumstances when it might be done for a specific period of time. Controlling heavy bleeding though can usually be done by temporarily increasing the dose of the contraceptive you are already on, such as by taking a few pills each day for a few days.
