Is It Common To Masturbate Too Much? Affects Sleep. Has ADD. Further Input?

I have a special needs young man who masterbates all the time. He would rather masterbate than do other things that he enjoys. Is this abnormal or is this common amonst young males and masterbation. He can be given a condom and then go and try to satisfy himself again leading him to be in his room all the time masterbating. He also does this at times when he should be sleeping and it is interfering with his sleep therefore he struggles the next day just listening. He does have Attention Defiecit disorder and is on medication for this. He also has no sense of time and seems to not know when enough is enough. Interested in your thoughts around this. Thanks

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello,
Masturbation is a safe way of satisfying your sexual needs. It is ok if done occasionally and will not cause any problem. However in your case, it appears that the patient is involved in the practice for so many hours a day that it is interfering his daily routine. If the patient is so much involved in it, that he is doing it at the exclusion of his routine activities, then he is probably having a behavior addiction. Moreover you have failed to mention that how long this has been happening. If it is a recent change in his behaviour, then there could be a possibility of mood disorder as well. He probably needs some psychiatric help as such practices can surely harm him in future. If possible take him to a psychiatrist who can evaluate him once and prescribe him certain drugs which can benefit him. Baclofen is one such drug which will benefit him.
Thanks . have a nice day.
