Is It Dangerous To Swallow A Small Piece Of Glass?
I am pretty sure that I swallowed a small piece of sharp glass and it feeld like it is lodged in my esophagus. No pain or blood or trouble breathing, just irritating. How dangerous is this and should I see a doctor. Age 51, female weight 125 pounds, general good health.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted your history of swallowing a small piece of sharp glass and feels like it is stuck in the esophagus; there is no pain, blood or trouble breathing, it is just irritating. Wants to know how dangerous is it and should you see a Doctor. Sharp glass piece can certainly be dangerous as it can cause internal injury or even perforate through. I would advise you to consult a Doctor in ER to have emergency upper GI Endoscopy. And removal if see. Most of the times this passes intact as it is covered by thick mucus as a protective covering and passes in stool. Observe the stools also.
