Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Fine To Give Antibiotics To A Child For Loose Motions?
My 10 months old daughter is haviing loose motions since two days. I was giving bifilac with Zinc20, as per the doctor recommendations. But since I didn't saw any improvement in her condition, I consulted another doctor and now just gave her Oflomac-m. She had motions(liquid) 10-12 times since morning. Even the best diapers are not able to absorb. But to my surprise she is still very active and playing. We are keeping her well hydrated.
My question is, Is it fine to give antibiotic in this condition?
HI Well come to HCM I really appreciate your concern, in absence of infection no need to give any antibiotic some time it may cause the more number of stool passes in pediatric age such diarrhea is very common symptoms and most of the time it is the self limiting it only requires the treatment when stool examination is suggestive any infection, here I would suggest to try Lyophilized Lactobacillus sachets else it is nothing to worry hope this information helps.
