Is It Necessary To Do A Pupil Observation For Baby After Falling Down?

Hi, my 7 month old fell off the bed today. She cried for about 1 minute and then seemed totally normal . She is alert, smiling, making her normal noises. I am just feeling so bad about this and can't believe it even happened. I was right there....I blinked and she crawled off. Anyhow, my dr. office said to wake her every 2 hours during the night and check her pupils...my question is, is that truly needed?

Hello. thank you for your question. this is something that happens in virtually every home, don't feel guilty. The fact that that she didn't lose consciousness upon impact and cried immediately is the best sign. This means that internal injury is very unlikely. The next thing to watch for is vomiting within the first 24 hours after the accident. If this happens, contact your doctor immediately. If this doesn't happen, then she is clear of injury. Waking her every 2 hours is not necessary.
