Is It Normal For Swimmers Ear To Bleed With No Pain?

Hello, so my girl friend was diagnosed with having swimmers ear last week on wednesday. Since then she has done the following as instructed: 3 drops of Acetic Acid Otic ear drops (every 8 hours for 2 days [FINISHED]), Amoxicillin (3 times a day for 7-10 days [5 days Completed so far]), 2 Ibuprofen (every 8 hours), Nasal Decongestant Spray 2 sprays in each nostril (1 time a day). She told me that the pain has reduced significantly and she feels much more comfortable, but when she told me to check her ear today (the 6th day) I noticed a small it of dried blood that looked like it might have oozed out slightly. I to a light to take a closer look inside the ear, or as much as I could, and it looks like there is a really small clump of old blood that s sitting with the rest of the white ish discharge. Is it normal for there to be a small bit of blood discharge from the ear when you have swimmers ear even if the pain is lessening and NOT getting worse? I would have been a lot more concerned if she was in more pain, but it seems (painwise) she has improved a lot.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about your girlfriend having swimmer's ear and the treatment being taken so far.
Since there is an inflammation of the skin of the ear this can be the reason for the blood that you have noticed.
So nothing much to worry unless there is further complication as seen by an ENT Surgeon.
Hence I would advise her the following:
Consult the ENT Surgeon again for review.
Continue the medications.
No swimming till cured as this only caused the problems.
Also rule out diabetes.
Do not clean ear at home, let it be done by the Specialist.

I hope this answer helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.
