Is It Normal That During Pregnancy, One Side Of Baby's Head To Grow Faster Than The Other?

my daughter in law (28 years old) is pregnant with her first child and just had a sonogram today and the nurse practitioner said the baby's head has a problem in that on side is growing faster than the other. SHe is due on January 7th. The nurse said nothing else and walked away leaving mom and dad to drive home with no explanation (obviously very upset). They called the doctor and he said it looks the the one side is catching up. Comment Please. Concerned grandpa

Hello Sir,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. If you can provide me with some more details like the clinical history and investigations, I will be able to give a better opinion. If the growth of the cranium is unilateral, it is definitely abnormal and additional investigations are needed to rule out anomalies. If the defect is minor and noticeable with deft observation, it should be followed up and intervened if necessary. It is also possible for familial traits to show up like this. Let the doctor see the report and make a decision. A repeat sonogram with high resolution would be ideal to clarify things. Hope this helps.
