Is It Normal To Experience Headaches And Ocular Symptoms Such As Flashes In Vision After Neck Fusions?

I have had four neck fusions. The first three were C5-C7. In all three cases C6-C7 resulted in nonunions. I m a non-smoker and am not over weight....currently 53 years of age. In May of this year, my surgeon attempted to refuse c5-T1 posteriorly. My symptoms have never completely subsided and are starting to get worst. This time accompanied my headaches with ocular symptoms (lightening bolt type images). I can only stay in one position for 30 minutes to an hour before the pain is unbearable. Movement of my head (up and especially looking down) brings on extreme pain. I fear another nonunion. I have an appointment with my neurosurgeon on 6th Dec. what should I expect both good and bad? Thanks,

Hello,

Flashes in vision after injury to neck indicate problem with the carotid arteries. The decrease in blood supply to the eye may cause the symptoms which you have quoted in the history.
I think your neurologist will be able to advice you regarding further treatment after examination.

Thank you
