Is It Normal To Get Swelling And Pain After Hydrocele Operation?
My father had a hydrocele operation on Monday and he still has a lot of swelling and feels unwell. It is now a week after his operation. He is 76 years of age. He says the pain is not worse and he is taking paracetemol for the pain. Is this normal?
Hi, it is quite normal to have swelling after hydrocele surgery. It is due to operative inflammatory response. It can last for 4 to 6 weeks. But, if there is pain you should see your Surgeon who might add on some medications. Do not worry if there is no pain. You should advice him to wear tight underwear or scrotal supporting bandage for a month so that the swelling does not increase. I also prescribe Tab Chymoral Forte twice to thrice daily for a fortnight to my patients which helps in decreasing the swelling. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.
