Is It Normal To Have A White Coating On Tongue On Antibiotics?
Hi, I am sixty years old recently after a bout of Chest congestion which was treated with antibiotics and was cured-I was left with my tongue coated with a very thin layer of white. It washes of easily when I brush or use a mouthwash. Otherwise my tongue is pink. Is this thin White coating Okay.
I have gone through your query and can understand..
As per your complaina thin white coating over the tongue after intake of antibiotics can be due to yeast/ fungal overgrowth causing Mild oral thrush.. It is commonly seen after intake of antibiotics due to disruption of good bacteria by antibiotics along with infection causing bacteria that resists infection caused by other organisms.. Nothing to worry, you can gargle with Nystatin mouthwash as it is anti-fungal in nature, suck clotrimazole lozenges and take ample of probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic in diet.. Drink plenty of water and maintain a good oral hygiene.. Avoid antimicrobial mouthwash..
Hope this information helps..
