Is It Normal To Have Back, Neck, Shoulder And Chest Pain After Falling?

My 17yrs old son was playing in a basketball game and was blocking a shot and when he landed he laded really hard on his back and his air was knocked out. He was down for a few minutes before he could get up, he still played the game but later that night he complained his back, neck, shoulder and chest hurt. This was 2 days ago and he is still hurting, is this normal?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hello,
Thanks for your query.

Back, neck, shoulder and chest pain after falling could be due to soft tissue injury or muscle strain.

* Give adequate rest to the involved muscle group and avoid any movement that causes pain
* Ice packing once in every 2 hours over the affected area
* Moist heat application to relax the muscles
* Local application of muscle relaxant gel

I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query.
Take care
