Hi I have recently been told I have inherited men2a and have had some blood test and a scan to check my thyroid and the doctor said my calcitonin levels are 11.6 is this a bit higher than normal? Also my scan showed that I have a small nodule what does all this mean
Hello, Good day. Calcitonin levels are not abnormally high in you. What was your calcium levels? Did they do any mutation study like ( RET mutation) and how did they diagnose MEN 2a. Based on the Type of RET mutation, we plan the screening of blood and some people need thyroid removal even before calcitonin rise. The nodule in your thyroid is a small swelling. This could be a thyroid or a parathyroid swelling. You need to do an FNAC ( needle study). Please meet an endocrinologist Regards' Binu
