Is It Normal To Have Numbness In My Hand After A Fall?

I fell on my arm/ wrost area today. I fell off a 2x4 wood board and smacked it off of it. It is bruided and has a lump. It was numb for a while after wards. It hurts to touch it and bend my wrist and finger sometimes. Its quite tender. What is it? Is it serious?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
hi,
u can have numbness after a fall. since it is tender to touch u should get an xray of the wrist anteroposterior and lateral view to rule out any bony injury. in the meantime u start with
1. give rest to the affected part
2. apply ice packs 5-6 times a day
3. take antiinflammatory medications like ibuprofen or diclofenac sodium
4 take an orthopaedic consultation after the xray.
5. u should also wear wrist splint after ruling out bony injury.
it will take 6-7 days to settle down. a bony injury will require longer recovery time
regards
