Is It Normal To Have Watery, Slightly Cloudy Nipple Discharge After Taking Emergency Contraception?

Hello Doctor, I m 21 years old from Kolkata. I have a concern and was hoping you could help clarify it. My partner and I had protected sex for the first time on August 10, 2024. It wasn’t a complete intercourse, but to be extra cautious, I took an emergency contraceptive pill within 20 hours. My period or withdrawal bleeding occurred on my usual date, August 19. However, on September 8, I noticed a small, watery, slightly cloudy discharge from my nipples. There s no pain or tenderness, but it s been happening for the last three days, though only a tiny amount when pressed (like a dot). I m not sure if this is normal or something I should be concerned about. Could you please advise? And is there any chance of getting pregnant??

Hi,

As you got your withdrawal bleeding / period on expected time, as well as the failure rate of i-pill is less. Hence, your chances of being pregnant are very remote. Also, though long term effects of i-Pill are minimal, still in some cases, breast tenderness may be there, which is mostly normal and goes by itself within some time. Still, if you are in doubt, you can take a home pregnancy test to rule out a pregnancy or otherwise.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
