Is It Normal To Have Worms In Stool Even After 3 Days Treatment?
I still got little worms in my stool after 3 days of treatment. Is this normal? I got infected with worms after a trip in Cambodia. My doctor prescribed me a 3-day treatment of 500g mebendazole (once a day) and antibiotic, antiprotozoan Flagyl 500mg for 10 days (twice a day). I am still under the antibiotic treatment but is done with Mebendazole however, I still see worms in my stool (pinkish and the size of a strand of thread). Does that mean Mebendazole did not kill the worms? or does it take time to get rid of it?
The worms as mentioned in your post are Pinworm/ Threadworm. They are a common intestinal parasite.
It can be treated by intake of Anthelmintic (anti-worm) medicines like Albendazole/ Mebendazole preparations as advised by your doctor.
Presence of dead worms in stool is a good sign. However, for complete eradication of the parasite, the dosage needs to be repeated again after 2 weeks.
Frequent hand washing and routine household cleaning measures will help reduce the spread of pinworm infection to the family.
Wishing a Good Health. Take care.
