Is It Normal To Notice Pus From My Child's Lips After Having Stitches In Mouth?

My son is 4 years old and just had stitches placed in his mouth on Saturday, after falling face first off of his bicycle. From what the doctor said, when my son fell, he bite about an inch deep in the top of his lip. His lip has been swollen since then and seems to be getting bigger as the days go by. Also, I noticed puss in the top of his lip as well. Is any of this normal?
