Is It Normal To Remain Sedated After Broken Ankle By Falling ?

hello.. my brother in-law broke his ankle by falling from like maybe 4- 5 meters while intoxicated... he was sedated and keeps being sedated because he wakes up and keeps trying to get up... this happened lastnight and the doctors sais his brain was fine his head should be ok... but his ankle is broken and they are afraid that one of his spinal vertebres might be damaged.. he has a fever and remains to be sedated.. I am just wondering is this normal procedure?????

I think he should be evaluated by a neurosurgeon as some time there is head injury which get missed due to alcohol. Also his ankle treatment should be started as early as possible. If he needs any surgery then it should be performed if anesthetist thinks he is fit for surgery. I do not think that he should be sedated.
