Is It Normal To Repress Thirst In A 4 Years Old With Dysplastic Kidney?
My 4 yr old son has a single dysplastic kidney and drinks a lot of water day and night. My husband is trying to get him not to drink water at night so he doesn t produce so much urine at night (he generally wets through his nappy). I want to know if it s ok for him to repress his thirst at night? I feel uncomfortable with this, I feel he needs to drink when his body tells him.
Bed wetting is normal up to 5 years. No need to worry. The thirst mechanism is a body defense mechanism against dehydration. So no need to restrict water intake in kids. Since one kidney is dysplastic he may need adequate water intake to keep the hydration and toxin level under control.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
