Is It Ok To Fly In Pregnancy On Clexane Injections?
I m 30 weeks pregnant, and flying from Sydney - Los Angeles (14hrs) next week. The doctor has prescribed me some CLEXANE to have before each flight. Should I just be having one injection 12 hrs before I fly in each direction, or should i be injecting this in the days leading up to the flights ?
I understand your concern and I will do everything I can to answer your question.
Clexane is enoxaparin, a blood thinner. It is usually recommended for pregnant moms with a history of blood clots or a family history of blood clots. It is also recommended if any major surgery is necessary during pregnancy since the hormones of the pregnancy make you more prone to blood clots. For people needing to travel, the normal recommendation is isometric exercises (flexing and stretching your legs) every half hour and a brief walk in the cabin every two hours. Using enoxaparin in pregnancy for air travel is reasonable, but not very well studied. One injection 12 hours before each flight is standard but give your doctor a call to make sure. I hope that helps and best of luck to you
