Is It Ok To Give Heated Formula Milk To An Infant?
I have a 6 week old baby who was premature. She was born at 35weeks gestation and was very tiny. My partner has taken her out on a hot day and has just told me that he gave her a bottle at 3.45pm and then left the rest of the 40mls for later, he didnt give her this left over formula till 2 hours after it was initially mixed and heated. I know that this is not the done thing as after 1 hour the heated mixed formula should be discarded due to bacteria. I am worried that he is not taking this seriously and would like to know from an expert at the dangers he is putting her under by feeding her heated formula hours after it should have been disgarded. Please can you help? I am extremely worried and distressed.
In an ideal situation one should use the prepared formula immediately within 1hr.if the bottle is at room temperature then dispose it after 1 hr.
Its best to throw the unused preparation to avoid infection.I guess discuss these important tips with your partner patiently and i am sure for the benefit of the baby he should comply.
