Is It Ok To Use A Soft Restraint On 88 Year Old Who Is Unable To Stand Or Move Without Hover ?

We have an 88 y/.o male who is unable to stand (but does not understand this) and is always trying to get out of the recliner he sits in. We have to use a hoyer to move him. We live in Oregon. Is it ok to use a soft restraint on him when we are busy and unable to keep a close eye on him? It is crocheted and not applied tightly just tight enough to remind him to stay in the chair until we can get to him

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Not advisable.
2. Elderly with dementia or associated psychological symptoms could get agitated or further depressed and cognition could depress further.
3. If necessary and difficult, community centers or caretakers to be used. Family support and involvement in social activities with good diet necessary. The binding can also cause injuries due to soft skin and could complicate in agitated state.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
