Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is It Possible That Muscle Cramps, Dizziness And Spasms Are Side Effects Of Increased Dosage Of BP Medicines?
I have been on blood pressure meds for years with good results until last year. The Dr. increased the medication and added a second pill. With the increase I have unbearable muscle cramps (legs and thighs etc). It kept me awake during the nights and I had trouble walking after getting up because of the pain. I stopped taking the medication and the muscle spasms decreased dramatically, but now my readings are between 150/67 to 179/62. It used to be 120/70 regularly with the medication. I wonder why it changed. I sometimes have unexplained periods of dizziness and two times, suddenly had to grip the counter/desk to hold on - felt like I was going to pass out. It took a minute or so to become fully conscious (back to normal). Would this be because of the blood pressure too?
Low potassium can cause symptoms mentioned and occasionally due to low sodium as well. You seem to be having postural symptoms , should get BP readings in lying down, sitting up and standing postures besides 24 hour Holer ( which is an out patient investigation ) to rule out any arrhythmias
