Is It Possible To Get STD From Sex Before Two Years?

I recently tested positive for chlamydia. I have had sex with two people since I have been sexually active, my ex, and the guy who i am with now. I waited a year between the guy I am with now and my ex to have sex. In between those times and while me and the guy I am with now I had been tested and they were always negative. For example, me and the guy I am with now have been having sex since January, and my test was negative for every thing in Feburary, but the one I had recently was positive. Is it possible for me to have had the STD since having sex with my ex two years before and the STD to be in remission and the test in Feburary to still have come up negative?

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic

Chlamydia can remain subclinical Or cause only very low grade symptoms in infected females.
However, it is unlikely that it would have remain hidden for so long without any obvious symptoms and also went undetected with a test, provided the test was a sensitive one. I would have liked to know the test which was performed for chlamydia so that I would have known its sensitivity and false negative rate.
If it was an old infection it would have certainly shown in the tests. Very recent infections can give a false negative test result.
Therefore it is very much possible that you acquired it as a new infection from your present boyfriend and he in turn from somebody else.
