Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am wanting to know if there is a problem with my taking Aleve three times a day for arthritis pain and also taking an occasional 1/2 pill of hydrochodone? I had bad reactions when I was taking Tylenol for Arthritis for pain, but since one of my bipolar medicines changed from Depakote to Lamictal, my bipolar dr. has told me I can take Aleve. It has helped me more with my pain ,but I could definitely use a small dose of the pain medicine ever so often.
There is no harmful interaction between Aleve and Hydrocodone so they can be taken together. But remember since Aleve (Naproxen) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug which can cause gastritis, stomach ulcer or bleeding so avoid taking it on an empty stomach.
Taking Hydrocodone along with Lamictal may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. It may also cause impairment in thinking, judgement, and motor coordination. You should avoid taking these medications together and also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving.
Hope these answer your queries. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Best wishes, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
